Mik Dominguez has quickly become one of the most passionate supporters of TheLifeWeCapture. He has been a helping hand in our new projects—always willing to collaborate on
ideas, participate in a variety of promotions, and, most recently, has entrusted our brand to help him generate income from his work as a photographer. We cannot thank him
enough for all of his support, and we’re thrilled that he sees the TLWC brand vision of creating the best online platform for photographers—and how eager he is to be part of
our growing team. It’s been our pleasure to work side by side with Mik, and we’re looking forward to collaborating on many more projects with him in the near future!
Creative Background & Experiences
Mik Dominguez is originally from New York City but currently resides in Huntsville, Alabama. His journey into photography began in 2002 during his sophomore year of high school, where he first experimented with film and learned how to process photos in a darkroom. He continued to take classes throughout the remainder of his schooling, but after graduation, the camera was eventually set aside—until recently. Now, with a renewed passion and a camera always in hand, Mik is back behind the lens and more dedicated than ever. Every time he goes out to shoot, he’s focused on capturing meaningful moments and pushing himself to develop new creative skills. In 2024, he essentially returned to the world of photography with a clean slate, excited to relearn the craft and embrace the challenge of today’s ever-evolving technology. When asked about a favorite photo, Mik shares a meaningful image of the Tillamook Lighthouse, taken at Ecola State Park. Despite the noise and crowd surrounding him at the time, the photo itself captures a sense of calm and stillness. For Mik, it symbolizes something deeply personal—how so much can be happening around him, yet he remains quiet internally. One of his most memorable shooting adventures came during a work trip to the Pacific Northwest, where he explored the Lake Twenty-Two trail. He underestimated the difficulty of the elevation gain and found himself exhausted just a couple of miles in. Though challenging, it’s an experience that stuck with him and added to his appreciation for the physical and mental demands of photography in nature.
For Mik, photography is more than just a creative pursuit—it’s his escape, his therapy, and his happy place. While he enjoys his career, the pressures of daily life can sometimes become overwhelming, and photography offers him the perfect outlet. What makes it even more meaningful is the time he shares with his young son, Giovanni. Together, they venture out to capture and create beautiful moments, strengthening their bond through shared passion and experience. Mik takes immense pride in teaching Giovanni everything he knows, and those moments together mean more to him than anything else ever could. His work is influenced by several photographers he admires, including Frederick Trovatten, Sean Tucker, Manny Ortiz, and Lindsay Adler. With his unique perspective, deep love for the craft, and ever-growing experience, Mik continues to evolve as a photographer while inspiring those around him.
Inspiration is a big piece of the puzzle to any form of art and in our opinion it’s one the cornerstones of creation in general. For Mik, photography is his happy place,
a getaway from all the busyness of everyday life. He has a job that he loves, but there’s times when it can become overwhelming, and that’s when photography becomes the
perfect outlet. It becomes a sense of freedom and distraction from everyday life. It’s even more special for Mik because he gets to share his passion for photography with
his young son, Giovanni, and together they go out to capture & create beautiful moments with one another. This wonderful artform pulls them closer together and creates a bond
between the two of them. Mik takes pride in teaching his son all he knows and having the opportunity to share those experiences means more than anything else ever could.
Photography Gear & Styles
Geared up and ready to shoot, Mik began capturing a little bit of everything—landscapes, street photography, nature scenes—you name it, he was out there exploring it all with his camera. As you’ll notice throughout this profile, Mik has a true talent for black and white photography. In his own words: “I just feel sometimes, color can distract from the actual emotion of a person you’re capturing. Doesn’t mean I will never shoot in color; it’s just something about black and white that hits differently.” That perspective rings especially true now, with his current focus on fashion and editorial photography. For Mik, it’s essential to convey the mood and emotion of his subject through composition, and his signature black and white style adds undeniable depth to each frame.
That being said, when Mik does shoot in color, his post-processing brings out tones that are nothing short of stunning. One standout example is “Seattle’s Emerald Haze,” a
vivid and atmospheric piece that you’ll see featured in the background of this very profile page. Whether in monochrome or color, Mik’s work reflects a thoughtful and
expressive approach to storytelling through imagery.
Currently, Mik shoots with the Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, and X100VI. If he had to describe his style in a few words, he’d call it “cinematic and poetic,” while his black and
white work leans more toward “bold and expressive.” When asked about the kind of message he hopes to communicate through his photography, Mik simply shares his personal
quote: “Not everything needs to be explained. Some things are meant to be felt.” That quiet, emotional resonance shines through in every photo he creates.
